The Mayfly’s short honeymoon!

So you think that you have it tough! …

You’re worried about how long you will live?

Reading about the lifespan of the Mayfly should cheer you up considerably.
Insects tend to live far shorter lives than other species. And female Dolania Americana Mayflies take the cake: They typically go through their entire life cycle in less than five minutes – and somehow still manage to find a mate, consummate the relationship and lay eggs during that time.
Talk about moving fast! (But perhaps their short honeymoon, has the added benefit that, having had their fun, they can then just move on, and avoid 50-years of being asked… “Have you washed the dishes?” Or, “Was that the mud on your wings that dirtied our leaf?”)
